How Many People Fit on a Yacht Charter? The Group Size Guide

Passenger limits, per-person math, and how to pick the right boat for your headcount.

It's usually the first question after price: "How many people can we bring?" The answer matters more than most guests realize — passenger limits are federal law, not operator preference, and they shape everything from per-person cost to which boat you should book. Here's how it works.

The Number: Up to 13 Guests

Our 52ft Marquis Flybridge hosts up to 13 guests, plus your USCG-licensed captain and crew. That limit is tied to the vessel's federal certification — every charter boat in the country has one, and reputable operators will tell you theirs without hesitation. If a company offers to "squeeze in a few extra," that's a boat you don't want to be on when something goes wrong: exceeding the limit voids insurance and puts everyone aboard at risk.

One detail that surprises planners: children count. A one-year-old occupies a passenger spot the same as an adult, so a group of 11 adults and 3 kids is 14 — one over. Count every human when you're building the invite list.

What 13 People Feels Like on a 52-Footer

Thirteen on a 52ft yacht with three separate decks is comfortable, not crowded. In practice groups spread out naturally — sun-seekers on the bow pads, the conversation cluster on the shaded aft deck, a few up on the flybridge with the captain, someone raiding the galley. At a sandbar stop, half the group is usually in the water anyway. The layout matters more than the length, and a flybridge motor yacht gives you roughly three boats' worth of hangout zones in one hull.

The Per-Person Math

Group size is the lever that turns a luxury into a bargain. At full capacity, a $2,400 weekend charter is about $185 per person; a $2,000 weekday runs roughly $154 per person. At 8 guests you're at $250–300 each — still less than many group dinners on Beach Drive. Full pricing breakdown in our 2026 cost guide.

Smaller Groups and Couples

Don't let the capacity number convince you a charter is only for big groups. Couples book the whole yacht for anniversaries, proposals, and date nights precisely because it's private — no strangers, no shared decks, a crew that fades into the background. Our 3-stateroom yacht Sly Fox (up to 6 guests) is purpose-built for intimate trips and multi-day cruising with an optional chef.

Bigger Than 13?

You have options. Running both yachts together covers 19 guests cruising side by side and rafting up at the sandbar — a spectacular setup for corporate events and milestone birthdays. For larger headcounts we can stagger charters across a day or point you to trusted partners. Tell us your number and we'll design around it: start here or call (727) 609-2248.

Yacht Charter Group Size — FAQ

How many people can go on a yacht charter?

Our 52ft Marquis Flybridge hosts up to 13 guests plus the captain and crew. Passenger limits are set by federal regulations tied to each vessel's certification — every legitimate charter operator has a hard cap, and it's worth being suspicious of any that won't state theirs.

Do children count toward the passenger limit on a boat?

Yes. Coast Guard passenger limits count every guest regardless of age — a toddler occupies a spot the same as an adult. We carry life jackets in all sizes, including infant and child sizes, for every charter.

What if my group is bigger than 13 people?

Two options: our second yacht Sly Fox adds capacity for 6 more guests cruising alongside, or we can help you split into two staggered charters. For corporate events with larger headcounts, call us — we've coordinated multi-vessel days before.

Is a yacht charter worth it for a small group or a couple?

Absolutely — some of our best charters are two people. A weekday 4-hour charter at $500/hour gives a couple the entire 52ft yacht, crew, and a private sunset for $2,000, which is why it's become a go-to for proposals and milestone anniversaries.
